Warrant of Arrest Issued Against Interior PS Monica Juma

The High Court has issued a warrant of arrest against Interior Principal Secretary Monica Juma.

Dr Monica Juma has been ordered to appear in court over a Sh4.5 million compensation to a former Nakuru Mayor.

Judge Weldon Korir ordered Ms Juma to appear in court and explain why former Nakuru Mayor Herman Nderi has not been paid an amount of  Sh4.5 million as compensation awarded to him about three years ago.

On June 17, 2014 the judge is said to have ordered the then Interior Principal Secretary Mutea Iringo to pay the former mayor the stated amount as damages in a suit he had filed against the government The Standard reports.

Judge Korir adjourned the case until June 24  when Ms Juma will appear in court to explain why the compensation has not yet been made.

Mr Nderi successfully sued the State for torture by prison officers following his arrest on charges of plotting to topple former President Daniel Moi’s government.

Justice Isaac Lenaola on August 2,2012, awarded the former mayor a Sh3.5 million compensation, an amount that rose to Sh 4.1 million by 2013.

Mr Nderi claims that he was arrested by Special Branch police officers in Nakuru on December 30, 1986 and later taken to the infamous Nyayo House where he claims he was interrogated and tortured for almost a month.

The retired officer submitted that he was forced to admit having taken an oath to overthrow President Moi’s Government.
