We Planned Theft of Joy Doreen Biira's Mercedes Benz with Her - KTN's Aaron Ochieng Claims

A KTN editor who was arrested in connection with the theft of Joy Doreen Biira's Mercedes Benz has made interesting claims regarding the incident.

Aaron Ochieng, who was on Tuesday arraigned in court over the matter, claimed that they planned the theft of the Sh2.8 Million vehicle with Biira for personal benefits.

Ochieng, in his report to the police, claimed that the two were to report the vehicle as missing and later sell it once the situation calmed down.

The editor admitted to driving the vehicle out of the Standard Group (SG) parking yard but alleged to have been given they keys by the news anchor with an assurance that he wouldn't be stopped at the gate.

“With the assurance, I drove the vehicle out of the parking yard and true to her words I was not stopped,” he stated.

The suspect further claimed that he then hid the Benz in Embakasi and went back to work before later driving it to his home.

On why the vehicle was recovered in Kisumu with altered registration numbers, Ochieng says he changed it after a post announcing theft of the vehicle was widely circulated on social media.

“Since I knew the original number had been circulated, I had no option but to change it since I had to use the vehicle for my Christmas trip,” he added.

While appearing before Milimani Law court, Ochieng who was charged with stealing the vehicle and handling stolen property, denied the allegations and was released on a Sh1 Million bond or Sh300,000 cash bail.

Ms Biira reported the theft a week ago after the vehicle went missing from SG's parking with initial investigations indicating that it had been driven from the premises by Ochieng.

After a week of probing, the luxurious car was recovered at a car wash in Kisumu having a different registration number.
