The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has issued a stern warning to residents of Bungoma, who are handing out leaflets threatening to drive Mt Kenya region people from the County, if Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula's name is removed from the voters' list.
In a statement, NCIC said that anyone found culpable of the crime would be liable to a jail sentence of not less than three years or fines worth Millions of Shillings or both.
NCIC Boss Hassan Mohamed, cautioned perpetrators of the hate messages circulating in the region, stating that they were in violation of section 13 of the NCIC Act.
The leaflets, which were allegedly directed to the Kikuyu Community, asserted that the Bungoma Senator was being 'witch-hunted' to bring him down politically.
“We believe that what the Senator is going through has little or nothing to do with the purported election petition but a matter being fronted by those who have always stood in the way of the aspiration of the Mulembe Nation to ascend to the leadership of our Nation. In view of the prevailing situation we wish to caution that we shall not take these assault on our people lightly or for granted” the leaflet read in part.
Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa also weighed in on the matter citing that the move by the Senator's supporters was uncalled for.
“It is saddening that these politicians have thrown hate leaflets and organised rallies to threaten members of the Kikuyu community over a matter they were not involved in,” Wamalwa said.
The Supreme court found Wetangula guilty of bribing voters and directed IEBC to take the necessary action on the matter.
