Why I Left Churchill Show & 9 Other Things Eric Omondi Revealed During Interview with Larry Madowo

Celebrated comedian Eric Omondi revealed interesting details about his life and career during an interview with NTV show host Larry Madowo.

Omondi, who started off his career at Churchill Show, opened up about his departure from the biggest comedy show in the country stating that 'he felt it necessary to quit in order to create room for budding comedians'.

"Churchill nurtured me but it got to a point when he had so many budding comedians in the show. I felt like a 42-year-old who lives with their mother. I also felt like I was eating up the space of young upcoming artistes,”

"Therefore I told him - dad please let me go and build my own house," he said.

Omondi, who has now grown to be a household name in the entertainment industry, divulged that he landed a television show in Tanzania that will be launching in two months time.

He disclosed that his breakthrough in Tanzania was attributed to popular musician Diamond Platnumz, who once invited him to MC one of the biggest shows in the country.

"I met Diamond three years ago in Mombasa after I performed his song nabeba mawe. He loved it (the performance) and when we met, he invited me to one of the biggest shows, Zari White Party, which had over 10,000 people. I did my best and that was my breakthrough," he noted.

Erico also revealed that in 2016 he traveled to 11 countries and 19 cities around the globe holding various entertainment shows.

The 29-year-old highlighted that a show he performed in South Korea was one of the hardest, something he attributed to language barrier. He, however, maintained that he would never hold a horrible show in Africa.

"I cannot have a floppy show in Africa. I do a lot of rehearsal and research," Omondi said.

The celebrated entertainer, who is also the CEO of Big Tyme Entertainment, mentioned that he started producing comedy on Youtube in order to increase his base internationally.

"I am trying to reach out to a market beyond my borders and it is working. I am getting shows because of this," Omondi stated.

He added that his company was focused on growing new talent and establishing existing ones.

During the interview, Erico told Madowo that he prefers being referred to as an entertainer instead of a comedian.

Omondi could not resist talking about his fiance, Chantal Grazioli, who he praised as a very good cook.

"She is Italian and she cooks. She loves cooking. I have eaten things that I have never eaten before," Omondi said amid laughter.

During the interview, it emerged that Madowo and Erico have a code name, daddy, which the reporter uses to refer Erico with.
