This is Why Italian PM Wore Bullet-Proof Vest to President Kenyatta's Meeting

The Italian government has responded to concerns on why the Italian prime minister had to attend a meeting at State House while wearing a bullet proof vest.

According to an Italian Government official who spoke to CNN, Prime Minister Matteo Renzi wore the bullet proof vest because of a ‘tight schedule’ and not because of security concerns in Kenya.

The official who sought anonymity further noted that Renzi wore the vest inside State House, Nairobi.

The images of the prime minister’s unusually bulky suit jacket, surfaced online sparking a buzz.

The images which were even marked with red circles at the bulky points became a subject of debate on whether or not the Italian PM was sporting a bullet proof vest.

Will Geddes a security expert notes that "It's incredibly unusual for there to be circumstances that would justify a head of state actually wearing body armor, and especially to a dignitary or a VIP meeting,"

Geddes further faults the decision making that was made within the security detail, to allow the PM wear a body armor to such a meeting.
