Why Kenya May Not Participate in 2018 Olympics

Kenya is facing a potential risk of being kicked out of the Olympic competitions over noncompliance to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) regulations.

According to World Athletics President Sebastian Coe, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) will indeed slap Kenya with a ban for failure to abide by WADA rules.

"I know the World Anti-Doping Agency has looked very closely at the Kenyan National Anti-Doping Agency. We, of course, monitor that through the IAAF so that work is ongoing," the IAAF president stated in an interview aired by a British sports channel.

The federation recently accused Kenya of not dealing with the doping issue adequately, threatening that the country might join Russia which has already been banned from the competitions.

About 40 Kenyan athletes have been prohibited from participating in IAAF functions following claims of doping.

Kenya boasts of topping athletics in the world after coming first in the 2015 World Championships held in Beijing, China.

On Tuesday this week, Athletics Kenya CEO Isaac Mwangi bowed to pressure and stepped aside following bribery claims by two athletes serving doping bans.
