Why Kivutha Kibwana is Blamed For Makueni Wrangles

Makueni County Governor, Prof Kivutha Kibwana has been blamed for the leadership tussle witnessed in the Makueni County Assembly.

Witnesses who appeared before the commission tasked with investigating the county's leadership, claimed that personal rivalry between the Governor and Assembly Speaker, Stephen Ngelu, had heightened tension between the Executive and the County Assembly in the last two years.

The Kamba Council of Elders further accused Kibwana of failing to unite the warring parties, hence leading to the endless disputes.

Other witnesses accused him of allowing corruption in the assembly, thus tainting the image of the whole Makueni government.

Kibwana is also blamed for spreading propaganda against Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), claims he did not deny but insisted that he was not solely responsible for the troubles bedeviling the County's leadership.

The Commission recommended the dissolution of the government on grounds that there were “exceptional circumstances” faced by the leadership of Makueni.

The team however would not disclose more information regarding the findings until the President acted on them.

According to a section of residents, Makueni County Government wrangles began almost immediately after the former Senator Mutula Kilonzo passed away.

Despite Kibwana's approval for dissolution of his Government, other leaders claimed there were better ways to handle the issue.

“Every time wasted in trying to battle out the issue will mean that Makueni people are just getting poorer, they should find a more viable solution,” said Machakos Governor, Alfred Mutua on Citizen TV.

Makueni residents last year petitioned President Uhuru Kenyatta to dissolve the County Government, citing poor working relationship between the Executive and the County Assembly. They stated that the tussle slowed down development.
