You Are Committing Political Suicide, Ruto Told

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Joyce Laboso claims that Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto's plan to form another political party is a step in the wrong direction.

Laboso who announced that she would run against the Governor in the 2017 elections, stated that Ruto had the democratic right to form a political party but he should learn from leaders in the region who have gone against the wishes of the people.

"Look at what happened to politicians like the late Kipkalya Kones, who was the King of the Kipsigis politics," she said.

Governor Ruto declared that he was ready to start a new political path, owing to the fact that United Republican Party(URP) was set for dissolution.

Speaking at a function in Emurua Dikirr constituency, Governor Ruto said plans were in motion to approach politicians from the region in preparation for the elections.

"I will be talking with like-minded politicians like Baringo Senator Gideon Moi and other leaders from the region who are ready and willing to work with me so that we come together as we head to 2017 since it is very clear that URP and The National Alliance (TNA) want to dissolve and form Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP) an idea I do not support," he said.

Laboso and Ruto disagreed publicly on Saturday, over plans to fire more than 200 inoperative local authorities in Bomet.

The National Assembly Deputy Speaker questioned why it was only in Bomet that the defunct workers were being targeted, while the Governor stated that there were no plans to sack anyone.

He maintained that the staff were being asked to re-apply for their positions in a bid to enroll them as county staff.
