You Don't Own the Kalenjin Community - Gideon Moi Tells DP Ruto

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi on Sunday launched a scathing attack at Deputy President William Ruto and warned him not to be sure that he would be elected the President come 2022 by the Kalenjin community.

Speaking in Elgeyo-Marakwet, Moi told DP Ruto, who has indicated that he will vie for the Presidency come 2022, that he does not own the Kalenjin vote, adding that he should stop talking about the future.

“Don’t come here telling us about 2022 when our people are battling insecurity and hunger among other pertinent challenges. Tell us about what’s in store for us today, the same way our daily prayer in the Bible says, ‘give us our daily bread today'.

"We are demanding peace today, employment for our jobless youths and infrastructure today. I also want to remind those talking about 2022 about the Kiswahili saying “Kutangulia sio kufika," the Baringo senator stated.

Moi's sentiments come after the party's Secretary General Nick Salat announced last week on Thursday that KANU would back President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election.

"It has been agreed that Kanu will support Uhuru in the poll, This was after wide consultation," Salat said after a meeting that was chaired by Moi.

KANU said that they would back Uhuru but not his deputy Ruto, an announcement that has caused jitters in the Jubilee Party especially among close allies of the DP.

Ruto's allies are accusing KANU of trying to undermine the DP and causing division in the Jubilee Party.
