Most Extraordinary Actions of Pope Francis

Pope Francis is largely regarded as a Pope of the people due to his love for social life and his easy interaction with persons of diverse nature. He is also percieved to be different from his predecessors and is the first Latin American Pontiff and also first to use the name Francis.

The Holy Father is also known to surprise Catholic faithfuls with his simplicity and humility, with the latest action being the making of his vestments (robes) at Kangemi in Nairobi for his visit to Kenya.

When he was elected in 2013, Francis was among the few popes to reject the typical Papal Palace, for the less formal St. Martha’s House, where he lives among fellow ordinary priests and walks or drives to his office using a 1984 Renault model.

In Argentina, he was called the ‘Bishop of the slums’ as he would often visit people in the low income areas and travelled on a simple bus to work. He is said to have lived in a small apartment cooking his own meals back in Argentina.

During his first Holy Week after election, Pope Francis chose to celebrate the day at a state prison where instead of washing the feet of 12 selected priests, he washed and then kissed the feet of Catholic, Orthodox and Atheists prisoners together with a Muslim woman.

In 2001, he apparently washed and also kissed the feet of 12 people living with HIV.

He is the second pope to use Twitter under the handle @Pontifex, where he is the most retweeted world leader according to the Catholic News Service.

The Pontiff also has his own emoji called Popemojis, which was created by an American company, Swyft Media in honour of his recent visit to the United States of America.
