Rotich Takes on Raila Over Eurobond Claims

Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich has once again dismissed claims by CORD leader Raila Odinga that Eurobond proceeds were misappropriated.

In a statement released on Thursday, Rotich said that the former Prime Minister's allegations were 'false and misleading'.

"Anybody who is sensible and well intentioned will be able to see that the claims that are now being made by the Former Prime Minister Hon. Raila Odinga are absolutely false and misleading," the statement read in part.

The CS accused Raila of using the Eurobond saga for political gains highlighting that: “Raila Odinga has relied on outright lies, and subversion of the truth for political gain and at the expense of the Kenyan economy”.

Rotich stated that the Opposition leader's allegations were fatal to Kenya's economy as it could scare away investors.

“Clearly, these statements are meant to hurt the Kenyan Economy through sabotage by keeping away investors. The Kenyan people must hold him to account for lost opportunities now and in the future.” Rotich noted.

The Treasury CS further pointed out that the CORD principal never unveiled anything new during his Thursday press conference citing: “All the information is already in the public domain. Indeed the officers mentioned were in the course of ordinary government business and he has presented no evidence of misconduct on their part. He is engaged in the malicious destruction of the reputations of the public officers”.

On Thursday Odinga released names of eight individuals he claimed were involved in the EuroBond saga.

The eight included Treasury CS Rotich, his Principal Secretary Kamau Thuge, Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua, former Central Bank of Kenya Governor Njuguna Ndungu, CBK Chairman Mohamed Nyaoga, Acting Director, Financial Markets department at CBK John K. BirechMoses Muthui and Benard Ndungu.
