Judge Njoki Ndung'u Demands Apology in 3 Newspapers

A supreme court judge has threatened to take legal action against a Nairobi businessman after allegedly linking her to bribery claims.

Lady Justice Njoki Ndungu has vowed to sue Jacob Juma after he posted information on social media claiming that she was paid to influence the outcome of an election petition against Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero.

According to a letter addressed to Juma , the judge has demanded for an immediate apology which should be printed on three local dailies and on Twitter before Saturday morning.

“Publish an immediate apology in paid advertisements in the Standard, the Nation and the Star newspapers and on your Twitter page within the next 48 hours in terms to be approved by us,” read the letter in part.

The letter written by Njoki's legal team further demanded that the businessman should delete the tweets termed offensive before the judge considers her next form of action.

Mr Juma is accused of posting messages on his Twitter timeline alleging that Justice Njoki was paid close to Sh100 Million which she shared with another judge in the same court.

However, Juma stated that he had not received information regarding the letter but was ready to take on the judge in court if she made good her threats.

The bribery claims surrounding the Supreme court have continued to degenerate into a war of words, with the public raising concerns over the vice that threatens the integrity of the highest court in the country.

This came after whistle blower Geoffrey Kiplagat claimed in a sworn affidavit that Supreme court Judge Philip Tunoi had received about Sh200 Million for the same case.

A special committee of the Judicial Service Commission was formed to probe the matter in order to determine whether Tunoi had a case to answer regarding the allegations.

The Committee which heard submissions from all concerned parties including Mr Kiplagat, Governor Kidero and Mr Tunoi is expected to release its final report on Friday afternoon.
