The Kenya Defence Forces is reportedly on the verge of purchasing five powerful military helicopters from the United states.
The choppers; Bell Huey II models, credited for reliability in troop missions into high altitudes and operations in very hot conditions, are reported to have been ordered by Kenya, according to a notice published on the US Federal Business Opportunities website on March 16, 2016.
Bell Huey II can cruise at a maximum speed of I96 km/h and is fitted with an automatic rotation feature, reliable engines among other safety measures.
Each of the helicopters, also known as workhorse, have the capacity to comfortably ferry about 12 soldiers during missions in remote locations, and are efficient during combat.
Reports on Kenya's recent moves to equip its military are seen as efforts to upscale the war against Somalia's Al Shabaab militia group.
A few weeks ago, KDF was also linked to the purchase of an American drone expected to be used for surveillance and battle against terrorism.
The unmanned aircraft identified as ScanEagle is reportedly scheduled to be delivered in Kenya before the year ends.

Kenya's forces have been battling Al Shabaab since the country launched an offensive into neighbouring Somalia in October 2011. On Saturday, KDF troops enroute to Afmadhow killed 21 militants and recovered assorted weapons after the battle.
“Regrettably, KDF suffered two fatalities and five injuries. The injured were evacuated and are receiving medical attention,” a statement from Col Obonyo cited.
