Governor Isaac Ruto, Rowdy Youth Storm Doctor's Meeting in Bomet County

Governor Isaac Ruto has been accused of slapping and pointing a gun at doctors after he led a group of rowdy youth and stormed a meeting that had been convened by medical practitioners on Wednesday at Fair Hills hotel in Bomet County.

Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union Secretary General (KPMDU) ,Ouma Oluga, claimed that the Governor slapped the chairman and tore the clothes of two female doctors bringing the meeting to an abrupt end.

“The governor initially had removed his gun pointing at the Doctors to scare and disperse the meeting,” Mr Oluga stated.

The union vowed to take strong action against the Governor for intimidating the doctors and abusing his powers.

“Intimidation will not implement the collective bargaining agreement . But no amount of intimidation will stop doctors from having the CBA implemented,” Mr Oluga affirmed.

Two local radio reporters, Hillary Mutai (Kass FM) and Isaiah Kiplangat (Kongasis FM), who were covering the event, were beaten and their cameras confiscated by the youth.

However, Mr Ruto denied the claims and stated that he had gone to the hotel to meet Narok West MP Patrick Ntutu.

“I have never been licensed with a gun and I challenge anybody to tell me in which police station I was issued with one,” The Governor said.

Doctors have been on strike for the last 21 days and are demanding that the CBA signed in 2014 be implemented before they can resume work.
