All Public Schools to get Laptops By the End of 2017 - Matiang'i Announces

Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has announced that all public schools will get laptops by the end of 2017.

Speaking on Wednesday, Matiang'i stated that this would enable children in public schools get equipped with digital skills.

In May 2016, the government issued 11,000 laptops to Standard One pupils in public schools across the country.

However, the gadgets were not issued to all schools due to financial constraints and lack of electricity in some schools.

This compelled the current administration through ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru, to start installing electricity in public schools especially in remote areas before giving out the gadgets.

According to Matiang'i, the government will now resume the distribution of the gadgets across the country and ensure all schools have them by the end of the year.

The issuance of laptops to schools was one of the Jubilee flagship projects in its 2013 campaigns. The project has, however, faced several hurdles including lack of proper infrastructure and security in schools located in remote areas.
