Former Starehe Member of Parliament (MP) Margaret Wanjiru has threatened to leave the Jubilee Party and vie for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat as an independent candidate following Senator Mike Sonko's big win in the nominations.
Bishop Wanjiru issued the threat while speaking to journalists on a previous pact between the two that if one of them won the nomination the other would automatically be running-mate.
The two had hinted at the agreement during their campaigns as members of the famed "Team Nairobi". However, Senator Sonko later revealed that he had settled to choose a running-mate from two prominent Nairobi businessmen.
Sonko revealed that he was weighing his options of either billionaire businessman Jimna Mbaru - CEO of Dyer & Blair Investment - and former County Executive Officer of Water, John Gakuo as his deputies.
Bishop Wanjiru garnered 7,654 votes in the primaries that saw Senator Sonko carry the day with 138,185 votes beating top rival Peter Kenneth who got 62,504 votes.
