17 Presidential Candidates Seeking to Oust President Uhuru Kenyatta in August Elections

The August elections are just around the corner and it has emerged that there are 18 aspirants for the Presidency.

Incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta will be Jubilee Party's flag bearer while the Opposition will be represented by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Kenyatta is set to go for his second term as President while Odinga will be trying his luck for the fourth time after losing in 1997, 2007 and 2013.

Many political analysts have billed the presidential race as a two-horse race between Kenyatta and Odinga but this has not deterred other aspirants from vying for the country's top job.

This year will see a significantly greater number of candidates and here is the list;

1. Professor Michael Wainaina - PhD - Independent Presidential Candidate

2. Peter Ondeng - Restore and Build Kenya Party

3. Abduba Dida - Tunza Coalition

4. Kennedy Mongare - Federal Party of Kenya.

5. Ekuru Aukot - Thirdway Alliance Party.

6. Joe Nyagah - Independent Presidential Candidate

7. Nazlin Umar - Independent Presidential Candidate

8. Cyrus Jirongo- UDP Party

9. Uhuru Kenyatta - Jubilee Party

10. Raila Amolo Odinga-ODM

Other independent candidates vying for The Presidency include:

The independent candidates will be required to have a Clearance Certificate from the Registrar of Political Parties certifying that the person was not a member of any political party for the last 3 months before the elections.

They will also submit an electronic and a printed copy of a list of at least 2000 supporters from each of the majority of the counties in the prescribed form and a symbol the candidate intends to use during the election.
