How Safaricom's Swift Squad Helps Take Control of Your Data Bundles

Nairobi is known as the city of opportunities and many people, after completing their studies, often travel to the Capital to try their luck and find employment.

Most people, however, fail to recognise that everyone is after these opportunities and some of those who fail to get a grasp of any solid job often resort to other “unethical ways” to survive.

The date was November 2015. I was still a newbie in town and while busy scrambling to board a matatu at the famous Beba Beba stage, someone dug into my pocket and took away my wallet.

I get my space on the bus and enjoy the ride until the conductor came asking for his dues - my fare.

I checked all my pockets but there was nothing. I tried talking to the tout but he was too mad to understand. I was forcefully ejected from the bus and had to walk home.

The mugging taught me a hard lesson, I decided to learn and avoid scrambling for matatus.

In December 2016, my best friend finds himself in almost a similar scenario. He is walking in town along Kimathi street, a group of young boys approach him with that “niaje bro gota  (how are you brother)” phrase.

He decides to engage them in a casual talk but the next thing he sees is a knife being pointed at his lower abdomen.

The boys took away his smartphone and all the cash he had. Lucky for him, he hustled around and bought a “Mulika mwizi” phone.

Similarly, he learnt his lesson and decided that he would always hide his phone and cash in his socks to avoid being mugged. So far it has worked perfectly for him.

Fast forward to 2017 March, our tech guy decided to break his sole commandment of never going home with his office laptop.

On the day he decided to do so, he met thugs who were more interested in the machine than him. He lost the expensive laptop and the pain of paying it back taught him to follow instructions. From then henceforth, he would always follow his instincts and has never been robbed since then.

Equally, we all have mobile phones and subscribe to data bundle products. Weird is that at times these bundles sometimes mysteriously disappear without us even having used them.

Just like the three mugging incidents, some applications in our phones rob us of our bundles without our knowledge.

Most times, you are busy chatting on WhatApp, double tapping photos on Instagram, checking out your friends on Facebook only for that "your Data Bundle is almost finished" message to pop up.

Luckily, Swift Squad from Safaricom has got you sorted. You only need to take control and change settings on your applications to avoid cases of data auto download or auto play of unwanted videos.

You don't have to continue suffering, manage your bundles and enjoy your browsing without worrying about that "your data is almost over" SMS.
