Baringo Residents Attack Senator Gideon Moi Over Insecurity

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi was cornered by residents in his county who demanded to know why he was allegedly sympathising with bandits.

The residents also demanded to know the whereabouts of a helicopter that he promised to buy in a bid to boost security operations in the county.

One voter, Anne Biwot, declared that she would not vote for Moi because he "didn't, at any given point show any attempt to fight banditry and bring back peace."

One Facebook user Willy Yegon questioned why the Senator was still associating with West Pokot Senator John Lonyangapuo "who has supported armed bandits who have killed many of his Tugen people in cold blood".

His association with former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga was also questioned by a section of Baringo residents given the killings that were associated with the illegal Mungiki gang.

However, Moi distanced himself from the allegations of supporting banditry in the region.

"I have no mandate to stop the security operations since I have no military powers to do so," the KANU Party chairman stated.

Moi has in the recent past confronted the government over handling of the security situation in the rift valley region, which is prone to banditry attacks.

He will be defending his senatorial seat on a KANU Party ticket and will also be drumming up support for President Uhuru Kenyatta in the region.
