17-Year-Old Kenyan Feted as Best Student in Mathematics in the World

A 17-year-old Kenyan student has received top honours after emerging best in Mathematics in the 2016 International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).

Manraj Singh from Melvin Jones School in Nakuru town beat over 150,000 students from about 150 countries across the world where the IGCSE examination is administered.

The student, who is in the 12th grade, also topped the country to secure the Outstanding Cambridge Learners Award Kenya.

“I am happy now that I can get a scholarship to pursue Medicine in University,” an ecstatic Singh stated during an interview with a local newspaper.

Singh, who wants to be a surgeon, delightfully credited his mother, Ms Divaloan Kavita, as his biggest supporter.

He dominated other disciplines in Kenya emerging best in Computer Science, Accounting, Additional Mathematics and Mathematics.

Due to his exceptional performance, Singh was awarded a two-year full scholarship at his school.

Kenya's performance during the Cambridge International A levels was impressive as the country scooped 72 awards with Melvin Jones School claiming 10 of them.
