4 Ole Tipis Girls Secondary School Students Killed, 10 injured in Narok Mai-Mahiu Highway Accident

Five people among them four secondary school girls died on Friday afternoon while 10 others were injured following a grisly accident along the Narok-Mai Mahiu Highway.

The accident occurred after a matatu that was heading to Nairobi from Narok was hit by a speeding trailer.

According to Narok North OCPD Joseph Kisombe, three people among them two students died at the scene while the other two died in hospital.

"Two students of Ole Tipis Girls' Secondary School succumbed to their injuries at Narok Cottage Hospital," Kisombe stated.

He added, "The Narok Star Shuttle matatu driver was injured in the left leg."

Reports indicate that Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) workers rushed to the scene of the accident to save the victims.

It took police and members of the public more than an hour to disengage the wrecked car from the trailer.

The other injured travellers were rushed to Narok Referral Hospital and arrangements were made to transfer the critically injured victims to Nairobi.

The bodies were taken to the Narok hospital mortuary and the vehicles towed to Olasiti Police Station.

Kisombe urged road users to observe traffic rules, saying caution should be taken especially as students travel home for holidays.
