Deputy President William Ruto Rejects Raila Odinga's Offer

Deputy President William Ruto has declined any possibility of having talks with National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking in Kajiado during a campaign rally, the Deputy President made it clear that Kenyans will choose their leaders through elections, and not by negotiations held in boardrooms.

He accused the Opposition of causing chaos in the country through the planned protests so that they can negotiate for a coalition government.

“We will not accept shortcuts to power. Anyone who wants to lead Kenyans should subject himself to the will of the people,” he stated.

Mr. Ruto claimed that the Opposition leaders had sensed defeat which forced them to withdraw from the repeat presidential election.

The Deputy President stated that the court ruling that included Thirdway Alliance Party presidential candidate Ekuru Aukot in the October 26 poll nullified Mr Odinga’s attempt to withdraw from the race.

“He wanted to avoid a humiliating defeat but the court has ruled that all candidates, who participated in August 8 elections will be on the ballot,” the DP affirmed.

Mr Ruto wondered why the NASA principal was withdrawing from the repeat poll, having claimed he won the presidential election.

“Mr. Odinga, you claimed you won the election. Don’t run away. You have been given another chance,” Mr. Ruto added.

The former Prime Minister had earlier stated that he was open to having talks with the Jubilee leaders to solve the stalemate in the country.

Speaking during an interview on Radio Jambo, Odinga refuted the narrative that he was interested in a coalition government adding that he would not be the second in command in Kenyatta's government.
