5 Injured After Fight Erupts Over President Uhuru Kenyatta's Win

Five people were on Monday injured after a fight broke out between a Jubilee party supporter and his Opposition counterpart in Narok County.

The two came to blows just minutes after IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati declared Mr Uhuru Kenyatta as the President-elect from the October 26 repeat poll.

The Nation reports that the fight may have also been triggered by ethnicity as the two combatants were members of different communities living in the region.

In other parts of the country, especially Jubilee Party strongholds, the announcement was received with shouts of jubilation and chants that have coloured past political rallies.

In Nyeri County, supporters of the ruling party flooded the streets raising placards written "Hakuna nusu mkate (No half loaf)" along with full loaves of bread to signify that President Kenyatta should not negotiate for a coalition goverment.

In President Kenyatta's Gatundu backyard, celebrations were led with chants of "Si uchawi ni maombi (it's not witchcraft but prayers)".

Various businessmen around the country expressed relief that the atmosphere is returning to normalcy.

"We are done with politics and now we know businesses will thrive," a taxi driver from Nyeri conveyed.

A Naivasha resident, Mr Sammy Botop stated: "We have been in suspense for so long and it’s now time to get back to our daily routines."

However in Nairobi's Kibera slums, Chebukati's announcement sparked fresh protests as youth engaged police in running battles as they lit bonfires along the slum streets.

"Our leader told us that he will give us direction tomorrow (Tuesday). We are waiting for him to do so.

"For now, the police can rest easy, we have no business with them," some of the youth declared.
