Raila Appoints New 15-member Team

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga has appointed a new team of 15 members who will now take over the National Resistance Movement (NRM) wing of the Opposition.

The leaders were appointed on Thursday during a closed-door meeting involving Governors and legislators from the NASA coalition which was held at Mr Odinga's Capitol Hill offices.

The new team was charged with a mandate to release a list of firms and products that the Opposition will boycott before Monday.

According to the NASA coalition, its supporters will be asked to reject goods or services from the firms as part of NRM's civil disobedience cause.

In addition, the team will be responsible for ensuring that the People's Assemblies are established countrywide in the coming week.

NASA-affiliated governors also released a statement outlining their planned involvement in leading the resistance in their counties.

"Governors from NASA today approved the coalition’s plans to set up a People’s Assembly and initiate a review of the Constitution particularly to safeguard and strengthen devolution in line with the pronouncement by principals earlier this week," the statement by NASA CEO Norman Magaya read in part.

Part of their six-point agenda would be to mobilise Kenyans at the grassroots to agitate for a Constitutional referendum.

A report by the Standard divulged that there are plans within the NASA coalition to ensure that the People's Assemblies are declared lawful.

"The NASA technical committee will draft a memorandum that will be sent to the county governments, where the governors in charge will ensure it is tabled before the cabinet for approval.
