Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has served the Nation Media Group (NMG) with a strict eight-hour ultimatum following a story published concerning her involvement in an alleged Sh52 Million scandal.
In a letter seen by Kenyans.co.ke, Governor Waiguru has demanded that the published article be pulled down to arrest its further publication.
Waiguru has also ordered the media house to admit liability and issue an unreserved apology in terms she will approve.
She has also demanded for a negotiated compensation on the footing of exemplary damages.
According to Waiguru's lawyer, Aldrin Ojiambo, failure to meet the three demands will attract a defamation lawsuit within seven days from October 7.

The article published on Monday purported that Ms Waiguru and the presidential campaign team from Kirinyaga had misappropriated a large sum of funds raised by President Uhuru Kenyatta's supporters.
According to the article, a section of Kirinyaga Members of County Assembly (MCAs) could only account for Sh11 Million out of the alleged Sh52 Million.

Majority Leader in the County Assembly, Mr James Murango would later come out to defend the Governor by outlining how the funds were used.

Ms Waiguru now claims that NMG published the article out of malicious intent to paint the Governor as a thief, corrupt and unfit for the office she holds.
"Our client has been severely injured in her reputation, credit and standing and has been brought into public scandal, odium and contempt," the letter read in part.
The lawyers further argue that the language used in the articles was coached, alarmist and sensational in nature.

"The said words in their natural and ordinary meaning meant and were understood to mean that our client derailed and subverted the campaigns for the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta," the letter partly stated.
