Why Kenyans Should be Wary of Ruto's Presidency- Koigi Wamwere

Seasoned politician and human rights activist Koigi Wamwere on Wednesday stated that Kenyans should be worried if DP William Ruto becomes the next President of Kenya.

Speaking during an interview on JKLive the former Subukia MP added that Ruto's win in 2022 is not guaranteed.

"I do not believe Ruto has everything wrapped up for him to be President. If you see someone be too ambitious for power be very worried!" he remarked.

In a separate interview with Kenyans.co.ke, Mr Wamwere did not mention the DP but explained that he borrowed the quote from the late Mwalimu Julius Nyerere and that the race to State House should be based on a genuine urge to lead the nation to the next step.

"If someone uses all their resources to get to State House it is dangerous. They might get there and sell the country," he stated.

On Wednesday he had advised the DP to play his cards wisely and monitor the ongoing handshakes keenly as they may shape the 2022 race.

"Ruto is worried about the latest moves in the political arena and is fearful that they might have a negative impact on his presidential bid.

"He, however, has to avoid any negative reaction or confrontation with the involved leaders as it could cost him.

"He must not show any anger or portray any characteristic that can make the political dynasties decide to further sabotage his bid and is better off silent," he advised.

There is a looming showdown between Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and Ruto over calls to amend the constitution in order to expand the executive.

Speaking in Nakuru on last week, the DP stated it was unfair to put Kenyans in campaign mood just a few months after the lengthy electioneering period the country had just come out of.

“Having given us an opportunity to serve you, I want you to know that our objective is to complete the development projects that we promised you and will have no time to engage in politics of power-sharing.

"Talking about amending the constitution right now in order to create other political positions is to lack respect for the electorate,” he reiterated.
