4 Killed After Nyandarua County Exhauster Truck Plunged into Ditch

Four people were on Saturday killed after an exhauster truck belonging to Nyandarua County lost control and plunged into a ditch on the Engineer-Naivasha road.

The accident that occurred 6 PM was allegedly caused when the vehicle's brakes failed with the four occupants on board.

According to witnesses, the driver of the truck tried to direct the lorry away from hitting a 14-seater matatu that was stuck in a huge pothole.

Unfortunately, he landed in the unmarked ditched that was filled with water, killing all on board including a woman who had hiked a lift.

Upon inquiry, it was discovered that the ditch was dug by a Chinese contractor who demolished the Matundura Bridge along Mingutiu River.

The Contractor who is currently doing excavation works to build a new bridge on the road did not barricade the section or put up signs to warn road users of the ditch.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, 25 people were seriously injured after the bus they were travelling in lost control and landed in a ditch in Makueni County.

Confirming the accident, Mbooni west Police boss Mathew Ngwio stated that the driver lost control of the 47-seater bus as they were travelling to Kitui.

“Those injured were swiftly rushed to the Mbooni sub-county hospital for treatment,” the police boss confirmed.

Earlier on Friday, seven people were killed in a grisly road accident involving a Nissan matatu and a cane tractor at Maliki along the Kitale-Bungoma road.
