News Anchor Salim Swaleh Leaves Citizen TV

Citizen TV anchor Salim Swaleh has exited the Royal Media Services (RMS) after he tabled a resignation in the last week of May.

According to Business Today, Swaleh's exit was likely triggered by an incident where he was allegedly spying for Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

This is after the anchor found himself in the war pitching Sonko against Interior Permanent Secretary (PS) Karanja Kibicho.

This allegedly saw Swaleh record a damning conversation where PS Kibicho was uttering unkind words about Sonko who has been accusing him of meddling with the county affairs.

The journalist is said to have recorded the PS at his office in Harambee House and later on delivered the tape to Sonko's office at City Hall.

Saw called a presser shortly after pointing fingers at the PS who reached out to Swaleh's seniors at RMs demanding an action.

Our sources, however, indicate that the news anchor is likely headed to NTV after being poached by Peter Opondo, a former boss at RMS.

His departure comes nearly 3 years after he joined Citizen TV in June 2016 where he started by anchoring Swahili news on Sundays.

He has previously worked as an editor at Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) based in Tehran, the Iranian capital, where he worked for eight years.

Swaleh has also a radio presenter and a special analyst on African news on the IRIB’s affiliate station, Press Television.
