Citizen TV Poaches Top KTN Anchor Mashirima Kapombe

Royal Media Services poached KTN Swahili news anchor Mashirima Kapombe.

According to reports Kapombe is set to boost Citizen TV’s Swahili desk after the departure of Kanze Dena and as Lulu Hassan heads on maternity leave.

The Swahili news anchor who is an alumnus of Daystar University started her career at the campus station Shine FM before joining KBC. Kapombe also worked at Q FM and NTV. She has been a Kiswahili news anchor and human interest features reporter at KTN since February 2013.

Kapombe will also reunite with former her colleagues Joe Ageyo and Yvonne Okwara who left the Mombasa Road media house to join the S.K. Macharia founded media firm.

RMS has formed a strong Swahili news desk after hiring Jamilla Mohamed, Rashid Abdalla and Nimrod Taabu from the Nation Media Group who joined Lulu Hassan, Mwanahamisi Hamadi and Swaleh Mdoe.

Notably, the media circles have been abuzz with reports alleging that Royal Media Services will also be launching a new 24-hour news station which will compete with Standard Media's KTN News.

Mashirima's move comes barely two weeks after NTV Swahili news anchor Nimrod Taabu also departed to join Citizen TV.

NMG has seen a mass exodus of their top journalists in a span of three months after Managing Editor Linus Kaikai left followed by presenter Larry Madowo.

Madowo's departure came just a day after eight columnists quit the Nation newspaper citing lack of editorial independence.
