Photo sharing platform Instagram has introduced a new feature that most users have been anticipating for a long time.
The Facebook-owned company has rolled out a feature that will allow users to verify their accounts.
Instagram’s strategic partner Manager Nicci Meek indicated that the social media platform decided to adopt the process in order to shut down scammers.

“Our community asked for more transparency about this issue we will share clear details about eligibility criteria and verification details,” she noted.
Once a request is submitted, the company will review each petition individually and, if accepted, will grant users the coveted blue check mark symbol.
Ms Meek further mentioned that the feature will give the online community a chance to apply for verification themselves and to comprehend the process of being verified on Instagram.
Presently, though, the feature is only available to a limited number of users who are perceived as celebrities.
Some of the Kenyans with verified accounts include Lupita Nyong’o and Jeff Koinange.
In the past, Instagram verification has been a secretive process with some social media firms asking for up to Ksh2 million to get users’ accounts confirm.
The trial version, only limited to Iphone users of the update has currently been rolled out in Australia.
Other countries and Android users will enjoy the new feature with time.
