Msando's Family Calls for Justice 1 Year After IEBC IT Manager's Murder

The first anniversary of the death of former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) ICT Manager Chris Msando was marked on Saturday in a ceremony attended by his family and leaders primarily from the opposition.

The solemn service took place at Christ the King church in Embakasi East, Nairobi.

Almost all those who stood up to speak reiterated calls for investigations into the brutal murder to be completed and for the culprits to be brought to book.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to 'extend his handshake' with Raila Odinga to Msando's family by ensuring that those responsible for the ICT guru's death face the law.

"At the 1st Anniversary of the Brutal murder of Chris Msando, we have joined the family in asking President Kenyatta to now extend the handshake to the his family and bring those responsible to book," he later wrote.

On his part, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino assured the family that ODM would always stand with them even as he spoke on Msando's enduring legacy.

"We have collectively given our word as ODM fraternity to passionately and jealously support and stand by Comrade Musando's family as we promised during his burial. May his soul never give those who prematurely silenced him peace," he stated.

Msando's mutilated body was found on Monday, July 31st 2017 at a forest in Kikuyu on the outskirts of Nairobi.

In his last public appearance, Msando had been on a television panel where he assured Kenyans that the IEBC's systems for the upcoming election were secure and could not be compromised, promising to deliver a credible election.

News of his death following his dissapearance shortly after the interview shook the nation as it came just one week to the general election.

The opposition accused Uhuru's Jubilee Party of being behind the murder in a bid to weaken the IEBC's electronic systems for transmission of election results.

The Raila-led National Super Alliance (NASA) coalition further demanded that sleuths from Scotland Yard or the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) be brought in to get to the bottom of the murder.

Investigations by the police into the murder have never been completed.

"It will forever be written in our hearts that Cde Chris Musando was murdered in cold blood because of his strong stand against election manipulation and injustices that has taken centre stage in Kenya's polls," tweeted Babu following the anniversary.
