Kenya has landed more than Ksh90.7 Billion worth of business deals in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s trip and meeting with his US counterpart Donald Trump in Washington DC.
The two leaders, in a joint statement on Tuesday evening, held that the engagements are expected to create thousands of American and Kenyan jobs.
The announced agreements will further enhance the prosperity and economic competitiveness between Kenya and the US.
“The leaders resolved to elevate the relationship to a Strategic Partnership, affirming it as a cornerstone of peace, stability and good governance in Africa and the Indian Ocean region.
"This United States– Kenya Strategic Partnership will include an annual dialogue to advance mutual prosperity,” reads the statement in part.
Trump and Kenyatta, during the protracted talks, agreed on the planned construction of a modern superhighway connecting Nairobi and Mombasa.
The project will be undertaken by the United States engineering and construction firm Bechtel Corporation once Kenyatta and Trump conclude on the planned further consultations on financing the investment.
The talks ratified the formation of a United States–Kenya Trade and Investment Working Group.
The body shall be tasked to explore ways to deepen ties between the two countries even as the Heads of State expressed delight in the establishment of direct flights between Nairobi and New York City.
The direct flights are expected to boost the economic and cultural ties between Kenya and the US.
Trump also thanked President Kenyatta for hosting the United States delegation of the Advisory Council on Doing Business in Africa.
He further commended the Kenya Defence Forces for their service and sacrifice in combating Al-Shabaab and ISIS in Somalia.
The US President lauded Kenya for taking a leading role in the East African fight against terrorism and for its sustained dedication to this effort.
