Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti has opened up on details of the mastermind who facilitated the gruesome murder of Sharon Otieno.
Speaking on Sunday, Kinoti disclosed that there was an organised gang headed by a "godfather" and comprising an agent and several hitmen who planned and executed the heinous crime.
"The godfather hatched the plan. He is the key person who procured the offence and has a direct link to the agent, who is already in our custody,” the DCI noted.
Kinoti stated there is sufficient evidence that will lead to the prosecution of those who planned and executed the kidnapping and the killing of Sharon.
“This is an organised criminal ring that requires careful investigation and arrest so that we do not detain the wrong person, and also so that those we arrest do not jeopardise the arrests of others,” he noted.
Sleuths also declared that more people were involved in the homicide than it was initially thought.
“The probe is bringing in more and more suspects as the days go by. Even those involved in the remotest way possible are as guilty as the person who actually stabbed Ms Otieno to death,” Kinoti remarked.
He further stated that the 7-month-old foetus in Sharon’s womb may have been the key target of the murder.
Autopsy on the body showed that she was strangled and stabbed eight times leading to excessive bleeding.
Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji promised stern action over the murder of the former Rongo University student.
"One thing that I want to assure Kenyans is that we have no sacred officials that will be left. Whether you are the Governor or not you have to face the law to the fullest extent," he declared while speaking at Haki Africa offices in Mombasa.
