New Twist as KDF Impostor Visit Murder Suspect Michael Oyamo in Police Cell

The murder case of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno has taken a fresh twist after a KDF impostor visited the main suspect Michael Oyamo in police cells.

The mystery man gained access to the Governor Okoth Obado's personal assistant at the Homa Bay police cell after posing as a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) official.

A senior detective attached to the case intimated that the impostor alleged he had been dispatched to help in the investigations as Oyamo is a former army officer.

Because we know Mr Oyamo left the forces, the man was granted access to meet him but not alone. He met him in the presence of a CID officer and I cannot tell for how long,” the sleuth told the Sunday Nation.

A Truecaller search of the man’s phone number identified him as Lukas Ouko.

Nyanza criminal investigations boss Michael Barasa revealed that Ouko had a letter from the military and produced a KDF identification card.

When questioned on phone about Oyamo he stated that KDF did not have a case against him.

“I was sent officially to find out whether Mr Oyamo had made necessary clearance from the Navy, which he left sometime in 2014.

“I did not discuss Sharon’s death with him. In fact, I was accompanied by a police officer, Inspector Wafula, and only took less than 20 minutes with Oyamo," he mentioned.

Military spokesman Col Paul Njuguna declared that no officer had been dispatched to Homa Bay for any reason.

If anyone or a group of people are purporting to be from KDF, they are fraudsters and should be reported to the police,” he remarked.

Oyamo was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the abduction of a Nation journalist Barrack Oduor and Sharon who was later found dead.

On Thursday, the court ruled that he will remain in custody until Monday, September 17 pending investigations.
