Court Rules to Detain Governor Okoth Obado's Bodyguard for 10 Days

Kisii Court on Wednesday locked up Migori Governor Okoth Obado’s bodyguard and clerk for 10 days awaiting investigations into the murder of Sharon Otieno.

Elvis Omondi, who is the bodyguard to the Migori Governor and clerk Caspal Obiero were arraigned as a probe into the gruesome murder of the Rongo University student continues.

The court stated that the extra days will facilitate the completion of investigations for the two suspects who were arrested in connection to the death of the student.

“The respondents will be allowed access to medical attention and to their advocates,” stated Kisii Senior Resident Magistrate Lutta Shiundu.

The case is set to be mentioned on September 28 and the two will be detained at Keroka Police Station.

This comes after the clerk surrendered to the police as detectives intensified the search for associates thought to have had a hand in the murder of Sharon.

Obiero gave himself up to the police after the discovery that a vehicle he drives was linked to the kidnapping of Sharon and Nation journalist Barrack Oduor.

According to an affidavit filed by a detective at the Oyugis law courts, the car’s driver has been negatively mentioned in the investigations.

The officer told the court that the detectives needed to submit the suspect’s mobile phone for forensic examinations and wait for a report to facilitate the investigation.

Three suspects have been arrested and are in police custody since the death of Sharon two weeks ago.

On Wednesday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations summoned Obado’s wife to record a statement on the same.

Police also indicated that they were looking for Hellen Obado’s brother Naftali Odi who has been mentioned as a person of interest in the case.
