Governor Okoth Obado's Wife Hellen Obado Summoned by DCI

Hellen Obado, the wife of Migori governor Okoth Obado was summoned by police to record a statement at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) office.

The governor's wife was alleged to have exchanged text messages with Rongo University student Sharon Otieno who was murdered two weeks ago.

At the same time, police are looking at Hellen Obado's brother Naftali Odie, as a person of interest in the case.

On Tuesday, Caspal Obiero, who works as a clerk in Migori County, surrendered to the police as detectives intensified the hunt for associates thought to have had a hand in the murder of Rongo University student.

Obiero, who routinely serves errands for Governor Obado, presented himself to the police after a vehicle he drives was linked to the abduction of Sharon and Nation journalist Barrack Oduor.

Since the murder of Sharon two weeks ago, three suspects have been arrested and are in police custody.

According to an affidavit filed by a detective at the Oyugis law courts, the car’s driver has been adversely mentioned in the investigations.

The officer also told the court that the detectives needed to submit the suspect’s mobile phone for forensic examinations and wait for a report to facilitate the investigation.

The police had moved to court seeking orders to detain the suspect for 10 more days to interrogate him.

A special team of detectives was deployed in Migori and Homa Bay counties to track the killers and were reported to be operating in high secrecy and not divulging much details to the media.
