KNEC Chairman George Magoha Sounds Warning Over "Fake Students" Cheating Scam

Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) boss Prof. George Magoha on Saturday revealed that the State has discovered a new exam cheating tactic students plan to exploit in the upcoming national examinations.

Speaking during the inspection and flagging off of the examination papers in Kisii, the professor stated that the major problem the council faces is people planning to do exams on behalf of students.

Premature exposure is the major problem the Council is facing as some people are planning to go do exams for the students and bring it back,” stated the Professor.

Prof. Magoha further noted that all examinations centres the council will find facilitating in examinations cheating will be treated as crime scenes.

He even sounded a warning to principals who call for prayers ahead of the exams during which they charge parents money to compromise examinations.

On 27th September this year, KNEC released the names of counties that are most marred with principals-assisted cheating cases.

These counties included Meru, Kiambu, West Pokot, Kisii and Wajir.

Mr Magoha, however, elaborated that the council is now working together with the Teachers' Service Commission (TSC) and security agents and that the crackdown is not restricted to the six counties named above.

Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) is slated to begin on Tuesday 30th October and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) will start on November second.

Magoha also flagged off containers containing this years' KCSE and KCPE examination papers in Rachuonyo and Nyamira Counties.
