1 Dead as Wall Collapses at Kahawa Wendani Construction Site

1 person died while 2 others sustained major injuries after a perimeter wall collapsed at a construction site in Kahawa Wendani, Kiambu County.

The 2 were rushed to Thika Level Five hospital after being discovered underneath the rubble.

The body of the deceased, a construction worker, was taken to the same facility.

Area residents and the Kenya Red Cross led rescue efforts shortly after a loud thud was heard as the wall came crumbling down.

It collapsed at around 11 am on Tuesday with some  workers in the area escaping death by a few feet.

Area MCA Cyrus Omondi estimated that there were close to 100 workers at the scene when the tragic incident occurred.

He further claimed that the wall was old and weak, explaining that ongoing construction work could have further destabilized it.

“The wall was old and weak, and the ongoing excavations next to it may have contributed to the disaster,” he stated.

The County Planning Team is reportedly searching for the owner of the property for allowing workers on the site knowing that the wall was weak.

He is also being sought by the Police and could face criminal charges.
