CS Amina Mohamed Issues 2 Warnings to Parents Days to KCPE, KCSE

Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Amina Mohamed on Monday issued two stern warnings to parents days to the commencing of KCPE and KCSE exams.

Speaking during a media briefing, Amina warned that parents will be personally held accountable if their children are found with mobile phones in school.

"Candidates found with mobile phones will be immediately suspended from school and will not be allowed to sit for the exams," the CS quipped.

Besides, the CS indicated that parents will not be allowed to visit boarding schools before and during the period of the national exams.

"All parents must desist from visiting boarding schools during this term," she stated.

The CS further added that the Kenya National Parents Association would work closely with the Boards of Management (BOMs) to ensure the directive is adhered to by schools.

"Security agents will reign on parents and schools that have collected funds under the pretext that they will facilitate cheating during the exams.

"So far, we have put 30 exam centres under intensive surveillance. Anyone found culpable either cheating or colluding will be apprehended on the spot and prosecuted," Amina added.

The CS reiterated an earlier directive that only Centre Managers (supervisors) will be allowed to possess mobile phones during the exams period.

"Private school owners must ensure that only teachers registered with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will be allowed to aid in practical exams," she stated.

The Education CS further revealed that new exam centres have been set to handle candidates who have been displaced by conflict in Narok and Nakuru counties.
