2 Arrested in Machakos as Flying Squad Swoop in on Car Theft Syndicate

A witch-doctor was among 2 people arrested as Flying Squad officers conducted a raid on a major car theft syndicate operating from Machakos on Tuesday.

In the witch-doctor's compound, detectives found at least 130 IDs and an assortment of spare parts.

They believe that it was at the house that the stolen cars were re-assembled and spare parts sold.

Head of the Flying Squad Musa Yego who led the operation warned Kenyans against purchasing spare parts from questionable sources.

“If a car was involved in robbery or any other offence, one can easily find himself answering for a crime he did not commit," he explained.

Yego further stated that they would also go after mechanics involved in the illicit trade.

The witch-doctor stands accused of collaborating with the car thieves alleged to have stolen vehicles in Nairobi and Machakos.

Police recently sounded an alarm on another car theft syndicate targeting Toyota Fielder vehicles in Embu county.

Disclosing that most of the cars were later traced to Nairobi, he explained that they stole vehicles parked at homes at night.

He stated that the suspects trail vehicles and rent houses near the owners homes', allowing them to study the victims and pick the opportune moment to strike.
