3 People Including 2 Children Killed in Deadly Shootout

Three people have been killed and scores wounded in a fierce gun battle between two rival groups along Isiolo-Garissa border.

The attack happened at 6 am at Janju area along the Isiolo-Garissa border on Tuesday.

The victims were identified as a raider and children aged 11 and 13.

An unknown number of people were reportedly injured.

Garbatulla Deputy County Commissioner Victor Kamonde stated the act was orchestrated by persons believed to be from Isiolo.

The attack follows the killing of two people on Saturday in a clash between armed groups from Isiolo and Garissa, at Uchana in the latter county.

Isiolo County Commissioner John Ondego mentioned the attack was instigated by three that occurred at the weekend.

Two pastoralist communities from Isiolo and Garissa counties have been fighting over pasture and the boundary between the counties.

The Borana from Garba-Tula in Isiolo and their Aulihan colleagues from Lagdera in Garissa have had a long history of conflict with the recent one dating back to 2015 where hundreds have been killed and thousands of families displaced.

The two sides are also involved in border disputes in areas like Eldera and Kambi Samaki.

The Borana were displaced from Eldera four months ago and the displaced families are camping in Garba-Tula town.
