US Embassy Delivers Thanksgiving Turkey to Citizen TV Studios [VIDEO]

U.S Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec on Thursday morning gifted a turkey to Citizen TV and KTN News studios for the Thanksgiving holiday that is celebrated in the Western nation.

In a live morning broadcast, presenter Willis Raburu was visibly excited as Chef Ali Mandry carved out the traditional bird to prepare a turkey burger.

"Today is Thanksgiving Thursday in the US and we have the traditional turkey in studio courtesy of the US embassy.

"Asante sana and enjoy your Thanksgiving. Amb. Godec, thanks for the bird, we will continue to eat it," he stated.

He read a letter from the ambassador where he explained the origin of the holiday and his experience in Kenya.

"On this Thanksgiving day, my wife and I are reflecting on our six years in Kenya. We have so much to be grateful for including the generous, energetic and hardworking Kenyans we have met.

"Kenya is a special place and we have been thankful every day for the opportunity to work in the country. We are grateful for our deeper partnership and the shared commitment to building better lives for Kenyans," Amb. Godec stated in the letter.

The embassy also delivered a turkey to KTN newsroom which was carved during the morning show hosted by Michael Gitonga.

Thanksgiving is a national holiday in the United States, celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November.

Originally a harvest festival, Thanksgiving has been celebrated nationally on and off since 1789, with a proclamation by President George Washington after a request by Congress.

The event that Americans commonly call the "First Thanksgiving" was celebrated by the Pilgrims after their first harvest in the New World in October 1621.

This feast lasted three days, and as accounted by attendee Edward Winslow, it was attended by 90 Native Americans and 53 Pilgrims.
