DP William Ruto Announces Refurbishment of Meter Gauge Railway

Deputy President William Ruto on Friday revealed that the government had embarked on another railway project.

Speaking at the Nakuru International Investment Conference, DP Ruto stated that in addition to constructing the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), plans had been put to upgrading the meter gauge railway.

"We are engaged in refurbishing the meter gauge railway through Nakuru to Eldoret to Kitale," he stated.

This, he explained, would improve the accessibility of towns in Kenya.

He added that all the projects would tie in the fulfilment of the Big Four agenda urging towns to position themselves strategically.

"The challenges we face and must overcome are located in the same place as opportunities we must seize to grow our economy, improve our society. The pursuit of a fuller, inclusive economy and a shared prosperity will lift communities and secure wellbeing of generations.

"The state of our country as an investment destination is a testament to its competitiveness. We have registered tremendous improvements in the critical parameters of the business environment, which has seen Kenya rise steeply in the Ease of Doing Business," he added.

He noted that security, electricity, transport and communications infrastructure has been expanded and dedicated to areas of industrial production and high investor presence.

DP Ruto further revealed that the interventions had positioned Kenya as a compelling investment destination, improving the country's economy in the process.

"The Nakuru County government move to leverage on natural resource endowment on one hand and industrial growth on the other hand is a strong signal of the leadership’s resolve and determination to place Kenya on the global investment and competitiveness map," he observed.
