NHIF Receptionist Fredrick Sagwe Onyancha Bought 8 Houses for Kshs160 Million

Fredrick Sagwe Onyancha, a 39-year-old receptionist at the National Hospital Fund (NHIF), is among 20 people the Director of Public Prosecutions, Noordin Haji, wants arrested for grand corruption at the institution.

It is reported that Onyancha bought eight houses worth Kshs160 Million between 2013 and 2017 at an upmarket estate in Athi River.

His lifestyle appeared to change suddenly after he joined the tender evaluation committee at NHIF which deals with awarding tenders in upwards of multi-million shillings.

According to the police investigating illegal dealings at NHIF, he first bought four houses valued at Kshs20 Million each in 2013. He also bought himself top-of-the range cars including Range Rovers and Toyota V8s.

Onyancha later embarked on sprucing up his house, valued at Kshs40 Million, in Green Park estate located along Mombasa Road, that has a panoramic view of the nearby Lukenya Hills.

The house was once featured in a KTN programme, Ideal Space, where his wife explained the expensive fittings in their palatial home.

Among other assets that he owns include a chain of carpet-cleaning businesses across Nairobi valued at Kshs50 Million.

The businesses are managed by his wife, whom he married at a lavish Ksh25 million wedding. He also has three sons, who all go to international schools in Nairobi.

The receptionist was raised by a relative in Buru Buru, and grew up in Umoja estate in Eastlands. He went to Nakuru High School before joining USIU where he graduated in 2007 and soon after, joined the NHIF as a front desk officer on a salary of Sh50,000.

Currently, with a salary of Kshs150,000 a month, Onyancha is a multi-millionaire with a taste for the good things in life. He rarely goes out to party, and when he does, he only visits the Carnivore restaurant.

According to the investigating officers who have been trailing him for months, “He is a very polite person who sometimes tries to look like a modest man by driving a small car.”

However, Onyancha is yet to be arrested. The Assets Recovery team has moved to court to repossess the house and other properties.
