KDF Kills 7 Al-Shabaab Militants in Somalia, Recovers Grenades

Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers, on Tuesday January 1, 2019, killed seven Al-shabaab militants after a shootout in Southern Somalia.

According to a statement by KDF's public affairs office, the officers also seized 9 AK 47 rifles, 10 magazines, 2 rocket propelled grenade launchers and three grenades.

The statement further revealed that the incident took place at 11am at a location along Tabda-Delahola route.

"Today at around 11am, KDF soldiers operating under AMISOM engaged Al-Shabaab militants at a location along Tabda-Delahola supply route," read the statement.

Two KDF soldiers, however, sustained injuries during the gun fight.

Speaking over the conquest, KDF Spokesman P.M. Njuguna stated that the soldiers would relentlessly carry on with the fight until peace was restored in Kenya as well as Somalia.

"KDF soldiers will remain vigilant and will continue to relentlessly pursue terrorists, to ensure peace and security of our country Kenya, as well as support AMISOM operations in order to stabilise Somalia," reiterated Njuguna.

In early December, KDF also engaged in a shootout with the militia who they caught trying to plant explosives at Bodhei, Lamu County.

The soldiers were conducting a patrol along the highway when the militants planting improvised explosive devices detonated them in panic.

That came just a day after a lorry, hired by KDF to carry construction materials, was badly damaged by an IED along the same road.
