Murathe Announces Movement to Stop Ruto Presidency

Former Jubilee Party Vice Chairman David Murathe announced a movement that he would use to achieve his goal of preventing Deputy President William Ruto  from ascending to power.

He was speaking during an interview on KTN when he unveiled the Stop Ruto Movement and stated that there were a lot of leaders within Jubilee and outside who shared his sentiments.

“Going forward, the Stop Ruto Movement which we are going to start, there is no stopping it. Let them assemble their troops, we will assemble ours and you will see them very soon,” announced Murathe.

Part of his plan involves getting the Supreme Court to declare that since the DP automatically acts as president in the event that the incumbent is unable to discharge his functions, he should not be allowed to run for president after the two terms.

He stated that he was now free to make comments without being perceived to be speaking on behalf of anyone.

Murathe’s anti-Ruto campaign had raised temperatures within the Jubilee Party which led to members calling for Uhuru who is the party leader to restore order.

On Sunday evening, the former party boss called journalists to his Garden Estate home to announce his resignation.

According to Nation, Murathe was forced out to prevent his sentiments against the DP from splitting the party.

Sources stated that Ruto called Uhuru on Sunday morning demanding to know why Murathe "is still a party official even with his views aimed at breaking Jubilee".

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen welcomed the resignation by tweeting, “Congratulations to Jubilee leader Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy Leader Dr William Ruto for restoring order in the party. Tuko Pamoja.”
