DP William Ruto to Pay Government Kshs 300 Million - NLC

The National Land Commission has established that Deputy President Willam Ruto's Weston Hotel sits on public land.

The commission also wants DP William Ruto compelled to pay Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) for the land at current market rates.

In 2018, the disputed piece of land was valued at Ksh300 million.

KCAA has, however, rejected the decision by NLC.

The authority claimed it was not interested in compensation and would push for the hotel to be demolished.

KCAA Corporate Secretary Cyril Wayong’o told The Star that the parastatal's Board of Directors will sit and consider an appeal.

According to the air travel regulator, the hotel which is just opposite Wilson Airport is a safety hazard.

The hotel is five floors high against a regulation that buildings near the airport should not be higher than two floors.

Wayong'o also explained that accepting the money would fuel impunity in the country.

"It will mean going forward that somebody can just grab public land and allege that he or she is an innocent purchaser, and thereafter decide to compensate, which is wrong," he stated.
