Police Jail Man After Demanding to Be Arrested for No Reason in Murang'a

Police in Murang'a have been forced to take a civilian into custody after he showed up at the station and demanded to be arrested.

On January 26, Gilbert Njoroge, showed up at Murang'a Police station and demanded to be arrested for no apparent reason.

The police, however, dismissed his demands which led him to throw tantrums. Njoroge reportedly started shouting at the top of his voice and kicking chairs and tables at the station.

He was later charged with causing disturbance at the station.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Margaret Wachira, the prosecution claimed that they were forced to arrest Njoroge after their efforts of calming him down bore no fruit.

Njoroge, however, claimed that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time he threw tantrums at the station pleading to be given a lenient ruling.

Delivering the ruling, Wachira sentenced him to three months in jail with an alternative of Kshs 15,000 fine.

Njoroge was further given 14 days to appeal if he was not contented with the ruling.

Separately, police at the same station are holding a woman, Lilian Wanjiku Ndembu, who was arrested in possession of bang but failed to appear on January 23 for case hearing.

The court cancelled her bond and her case is set for hearing on April 17, 2019.
