Balle Balle Club Seeking Ksh48 Million for Dancers Deportation

Balle Balle club in Parklands on Wednesday sued the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and Transnational Organized Crime Unit for loss of business, following the deportation of their belly dancers.

The club had flown in eight Pakistani belly dancers with the assistance of the Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa during the festive season.

Through lawyer Evans Ondieki, the club told Justice Luka Kimaru that the deportation of the dancers infringed its rights and business.

“The dancers had been issued with special permits by the Sports CS to perform at the Balle Balle club but were arrested and detained illegally by police,” Ondieki stated.

Ondieki added the deportation by the police was as a result of illegal fusion of powers by the three offices.

The lawyer also stated that the dancers were arrested by the Inter-Agency investigators from the office of the DCI, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and Transnational Crime unit.

The girls claimed they were taken out of the club and detained for 36 hours without bathing, which they termed as a violation of human rights.

According to Daily Nation, the club told the court it engaged in legitimate business, adding that had paid all statutory fees and obtained the required permits.

The Parklands-based club is now seeking restraining orders from the DCI, DPP and the Transnational Organized Crime Unit.

A statement by the Ministry of Interior noted the women had been deported on January 4 for violating terms stated in the temporary passes that allowed them entry to Kenya.
