Ivy Wangechi's Mother Dismisses Apology by Naftali Kinuthia's Father

The slain Moi University student Ivy Wangechi's mother, Winfred Waithera, on Tuesday, brushed off an apology offered by her daughter's killer's father George Kinuthia.

Kinuthia, a businessman based in Thika town and the father to Naftali Kinuthia, apologised on Monday revealing that he was sorry and that he knew his son as a reserved man, who did not have a criminal record.

According to The Star, the mother dismissed the apology minutes after Kinuthia offered it explaining that she needed time to mourn her daughter and bury her.

"It's not easy for me and my family. All I want now is my peace to mourn and bury my daughter," she revealed.

Waithera had earlier disclosed that her life and that of her family would never be the same again since Wangechi used to surprise them with gifts and that she was simply sweet.

George, on the other hand, had offered his apologies explaining that he did not know that his son would kill someone else and that if he knew, he would have done everything to stop it.

"If I knew it would happen, I would have done everything possible to stop it. Kinuthia had not complained to me about any problem and I just can't tell why this happened. We are sorry," apologised Kinuthia.

He added that the family was yet to get in touch with that of Wangechi over the matter, adding that they were in talks with church leaders and elders to know how to go about the situation.

He stated that his family would send elders during Wangechi's funeral, which will be held on Thursday.

Naftali Kinuthia was, on Monday, detained for 14 days as the police finish up their investigations with samples from the suspect and the deceased having been taken for testing at the government chemist.
